Flexible Spending Plan: The BTU has negotiated a flexible spending program that allows BTU members and other city employees to use pre-tax dollars for a variety of expenses: medical, dependent care, and certain transportation.
The start of the sign-up for the open enrollment period for 2012-13 will be announced shortly. What we do know today is that we are having an open House at the BTU on October 30 from 2:30 pm to 4 pm at the BTU Hall. If you cannot make the meeting at the BTU, you can always call 781-848-9848 for more information or you can also visit the vendor’s website here. In addition, the BTU has prepared a quick summary here. More information will be forthcoming.
This is a great benefit with tremendous tax savings. More than 400 BTU members participate.
Mass Smart Plan: BTU members are allowed to participate in the state’s deferred compensation plan. A plan representative will be at the BTU from 4-6 PM on the following dates:
October 9, November 13, January 15, March 12, April 30, June 11
The Deferred Comp Plan operates like a tax-sheltered annuity plan, though there are some differences. All members are encouraged, if interested, to attend any of these meetings to find out more. Read a full description of the Deferred Comp as well as how TSA’s work here.
Zipcar: At the request of a number of BTU members, the BTU has become a sponsor of sorts with member privileges for Zipcar. There are some benefits of membership through the sponsorship, so we joined. We make no Zipcar recommendation one way or another and are doing this merely to help those members who would use Zipcar anyway. If you go here, you can join under our sponsorship and partake in the benefit of our sponsorship.
