City councilors and mayoral candidates along with the teachers union are slamming state Education Commissioner Jeff Riley for threatening to freeze federal funding to schools due to recent turmoil on the School Committee.
“For the Commissioner to threaten to deprive students of these vital psychological, health-related, and social-emotional support resources as a political maneuver — or under the guise of school committee turnover — is cynical and misguided,” Erik Berg, executive vice president of the Boston Teachers Union said in a statement.
