Two members of the Boston School Committee, Reverend Gregory Groover and Mr. Claudio Martinez, serve on the board of the Boston Foundation, which lobbied strongly for approval of the Superintendent’s closing plan. The Boston Foundation has also just written its second report decrying the high cost of city employees’ health coverage.
The school-closing plan will displace a few hundred teachers and thousands of students from their current assignments. The BTU leadership has been visiting all of the affected schools in anticipation of this vote, and will continue to do so. Meetings at all schools to discuss the assignment rights of staff will also be held over the next few months.
