The preliminary BTU election was held at the BTU last week and here are the results: this Wednesday, May 6 from 9 AM to 6 PM.
The only position on the May ballot was Para/Sub Field Representative. The candidates are, in alphabetical order were:
- Christopher Breen: 20 votes
- Josephina Lascano: 77 votes
- Donna Lashus: 50 votes
The top two candidates will face off in the final election.
There has been some controversy surrounding the mailed ballot requests and what to do to help one get a re-issuance of the request form. Since the original letters with the blue envelopes went out a few weeks ago, a number of people have called to ask for a re-issuance of the request form. All requests have been promptly replied to by BTU office secretarial staff. Our goal is to get the request forms in the hands of all members promptly and properly. To accomplish the process of insuring that all eligible members have fair access, the BTU, working through the American Arbitration Association (AAA), is sending anew a complete ballot request package to ALL members, active and retired. The only difference between this packet and the last is that this packet will have the outside envelope marked with the words “Ballot Request Enclosed.”This new ballot request form will be mailed out as quickly as possible, probably on Thursday of this week, and the request form has to be received by AAA by the close of business on May 22. A metered-stamped envelope for return will be provided. As soon as these ballot request envelopes are returned to AAA, ballots will be mailed out. This process will be done on a rolling basis. If you choose to use this request form, mail it back immediately as time is tight.
If your ballot request form is returned to AAA by May 15, then your official ballot will be mailed beginning Monday, May 18.
If your previous ballot request was a copy, or if it was mailed in a non-blue envelope, it is deemed appropriate and proper and it will generate a mailed ballot. BTU Building Representatives can continue to visit the union office and obtain ballot request forms provided the name and last four digits of the member’s social security number are given.
If you previously sent in a ballot request, you do not need to do so again. If you do wish to re-send another ballot request to AAA – feel free to do so – but you will still receive only one ballot. The official ballot will be mailed with complete instructions.
All ballots must be received by AAA by June 2.
All of the above was worked through with BTU attorney Dwyer, AAA and Kristen Pinto, and we think it is the fairest way to get the word out to insure access for all.
