On October 10, the BTU membership voted to ratify the proposed collective bargaining agreement. Nearly 700 members attended the ratification meeting, and the vote appeared to be approximately 695 to 5. From this point the proposed contract goes to the school committee for approval. The school committee is expected to call a special meeting sometime over the next week or so. The city council must then appropriate the funding. All of the above, we hope, ought to completed by the end of the month, or perhaps the early part of November.
The salary increase — an effective 3% — is expected to be in place before the end of November, with the retroactive to follow as soon as all can be calculated.
Thank you for your patience. We believe that we have settled a contract that is good for our students, affordable to the city, and fair to our members.
