Board of Elementary and Secondary Education Meeting: Testify about MCAS
April 23 @ 8:30 am - 11:30 am
All education allies are invited to I am writing to invite you to attend the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education meeting on April 23 at 8:30 AM. We are expecting a number of students, educators, and concerned community leaders will be testifying that morning in regards to the racist question that was part of this year’s high school ELA MCAS. Commissioner Riley has said that this one particular question will not be scored.
We are asking that the entirety of this year’s tests not be scored at all and to have them discarded completely while holding the districts and the students harmless. There will be testimony supporting this action as many students have expressed that they were upset after reading the question and then trying to answer it knowing the high stakes nature of this test as a graduation requirement. Additionally, we are asking that ALL questions be released to the public as students are also talking about some other writing prompts that may be questionable. But how will we ever know if the questions are not released!?
We would like to fill the room. Please come and watch the proceedings (Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, 75 Pleasant Street, Malden, MA 02148, Phone: 781-338-3112, Fax: 781-338-3770). If you would like to speak please ask for a time slot by writing to this email address firstname.lastname@example.org and cc email@example.com. If you cannot attend but would like to submit written testimony, please send it to that same email address.
