Session 1
Are Our Schools Healthy, Are Our Schools Green?
BPS youth will lead an interactive workshop on school building conditions and healthy and safety hazards in our classrooms. Come to play fun learning games and to imagine what your ideal BPS building would look like!
Bring your own seat to the table: how to win a change when BPS won't listen
What do you do when BPS makes a decision for your school without including the families? In this workshop, learn how we've brought our own chairs to the decision-making table. Find out how we've won, and how you can make sure that family voices are heard at your school and district.
RJ Part 1: What is Restorative Justice & How Does it Work?
Restorative justice is more than just an alternative to school discipline; it is a shift of culture and climate in our schools toward inclusivity and community healing. Join us to learn more about the use of restorative justice practices in a school-based setting. This workshop will be led by Arthur Collins and Brenda Coaston-Lewis (Office of Restorative Justice at Boston Public Schools) and Jillie Santos (Citizens for Juvenile Justice).
Hub Schools
Community schools are a strategy and movement for thriving school communities. Collaborators across the City are learning together and co-developing how we can sustain a community schools strategy in the Boston Public Schools. YOU are a valued collaborator too, so join us for a dynamic and powerful discussion.
Session 2
Green New Deal: Organizing & Action
What is the Green New Deal for Boston Public Schools? We'll look at how the GND4BPS is going to affect our children's schools, when decisions will be made, and how we can influence those decisions. Come prepared to organize!
RJ Part 2: Restorative Circles
Participate in a restorative justice circle led by BPS RJ practitioners and experience aspects of the circle model in practice! In this session, you will engage in a peace-making circle process that deepens relationships and mirrors the experience of how circles should be practiced in a school environment. There is a limit of thirty participants (two circles of fifteen) that can join this workshop session. First come, first serve!
