amount of time to wait for the School Department to repair a broken toilet seat? Two days? Two weeks? One month? One year? The broken toilet seat pictured at left in the men’s restroom at Brighton High School has been patiently awaiting a replacement for one year. Since that time, we have spent close to $1 billion in our schools. But $15 for a new toilet seat? Next step: a GoFundMe page to raise the money needed.
The teachers have been very patient. They’ve written emails, made phone calls and sent letters. How much longer will they have to wait?
Let me be transparent: In this space, we are purposely trying to embarrass the School Department into action. At a time when the district has just moved into a state-of-the-art headquarters in the Bolling Building — with wonderful restrooms and “whole” toilet seats — surely there’s $15 somewhere in the budget to purchase a new toilet seat for the teachers at Brighton High School?
Memo to the district: Sometimes it’s the small things that count.
