School planning teams in the 15 Extended Learning Time (ELT) schools have begun to work on their proposed schedules for the extended programming, which will take effect next year. At best, it will be an arduous process, inasmuch as the new extended day has to account for major scheduling changes:
- the student and staff day will be extended by 40 minutes;
- there will be a NEW 40-minute teacher-directed planning period each week for all staff; and
- there will be a new 35-minute block of P&D time for all staff. This 35-minute block can either be a single block of 35 minutes or five seven-minute extensions above and beyond the current P&D time.
The School Site Council needs to make many of these decisions. So it is very important that your school have an operating, properly-elected School Site Council. If it does not, please email us.
