The Boston Teachers Union last Friday filed for expedited arbitration as we challenged wholesale excessing of close to 400 of our members from pilot and turnaround schools.
The School Department has purposely and willfully violated our contract in sending out many more excess notices than it reasonably had to in order to satisfy the February 1 deadline. In violating our contract, the School Department has created unnecessary anxiety for hundreds of teachers and paraprofessionals.
Most of those noticed excessing will eventually be returned to their current assignments. Any delay in returning our members to their current assignment beyond the end of next week is inexcusable.
We will announce more information at the regularly-scheduled membership membership meeting this Wednesday, February 9.
