As of late last week each of the 25 schools listed below has submitted an initial letter of interest and/or inquiry seeking possible entry for consideration as a candidate school for ELT start-up this September.
Please note that the decision process for a school to participate includes an acknowledgement that there is staff consensus to participate in Phase I of the ELT.
There also needs to be in place ASAP a School Site Council in every school selected. School Site Councils have responsibility for a myriad of ELT-related tasks, with many of those tasks having to be completed before the year of entry into the extended day program. School Site Councils:
- Will help plan how the ELT time is allocated and worked into the school allocated;
- Will decide whether the teachers receive their additional 35 minutes of P & D as a block of 35 minutes per week or as a 7-minute extension to their current P & D time;
- Will be responsible for the implementation of the planning grants leading up to the implementation of the program; and
- Shall choose the 400 paid facilitators who will guide the 40-minute block of teacher-directed planning each week during the school year.
We are committed to making ELT work in a fair and expeditious manner with full transparency. To accomplish this we need your help getting staff consensus or a vote, and making sure the local School Site Council is in operation. Please feel free to email us with questions.
