Here’s the story: The training is still voluntary, The school department and the Mass DESE are both under attack “ rightly so “ from the Federal Department of Justice for not paying due diligence to the effort to adequately negotiate a mandatory training program. Long story short, both the Boston School department and the state DESE are terribly remiss for not waking up to this necessity. What’s more, the Feds have declared that the training offered so far “ even on a voluntary basis “ is inadequate. Here’s what the Feds said:
So there you have it. The 80 hours training that Boston has instituted on might be inadequate. That said, we again take the same position. It is voluntary. Take it if you wish; don’t take it if you cannot. The state has promised to revisit this issue. See a Globe report here.
