The only method by which one can take a LOA and work while on leave is to take a Career Transition Leave. Please read the below from HR.
CAREER TRANSITION LEAVES SY 2014-2015
Eligible teachers will not lose or accrue sick or personal days while on leave, but may continue their health insurance under the City of Boston’s Health Insurance Program. The employee will be responsible for the entire cost of insurance while on leave.
(Ed note: Those on leave who drop city health insurance are reminded that they must re-enroll in the city plan during the Open Enrollment period of the year in which they are on leave. THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT. Those who don’t do this are at risk of forfeiting their health insurance in their return year.)
Individuals should understand that, if approved, this leave will be granted for the school year and dates cannot be amended. However, should a teacher wish to return prior to the expiration of the leave, they must notify the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, who may assign the teacher to an appropriate position based upon the teacher’s certification and/or licensure and the availability of a position.
Interested individuals should apply on the HUB for a career transition leave, the Headmaster/Principal will need to sign off on the leave electronically, and you need to apply no later than May 1, 2014. LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
Please note that we are unable to approve any leaves for school year 2014-2015 until early spring, once we have determined any layoff population.
