SMART Plan Meetings: February 6 and March 6
Do you know if you’re on the right track for retirement? The SMART 457(b) Plan offers tax-advantaged savings to help you build a more secure retirement. Educator Wellness Day at the BTU: March 9
Paras, subs, teachers — all are invited to join us for a day of relaxation and healing and a celebration of self-care in our work as educators! There will be workshops to choose from: yoga, calligraphy, meditation, and Zumba. Learn from a panel of educators on their practices of self-care and building resilient cultures of support at school. Last week, draft regulations for the Paid Family and Medical Leave program were released. Please join a public comment listening session to shape final regulations! It is crucial we have a strong progressive presence felt by administrators to ensure that the regulatory process does not weaken the law. Please join the Boston session tomorrow from 2-3:30.

Learn detailed information about the Journey into Education and Teaching (JET) Program and how it works to help you achieve your goals of becoming a licensed teacher! These sessions are for BPS Paraprofessionals who are seeking a Massachusetts teacher licensure and a bachelor’s degree. Join us at the BTU on Thursday, February 7 from either 4:30-5:15 or 5:30-6:15 PM or on Thursday, February 28 from 4:30-5:15 or 5:30-6:15 PM. The City of Boston, Boston Public Schools, and the Boston Teachers Union are pleased to announce the 2019 Boston Educator of the Year Awards! The Educator of the Year award is the highest honor given to Boston Public Schools educators. NEW — Perrone-Sizer Institute for Creative Leadership Applications Open
Applications are now being accepted for the Perrone-Sizer Institute for Creative Leadership (PSi). Founded by veteran educators Linda Nathan and Carmen Torres, PSi is a leadership certificate program that develops creative, innovative, adaptive, and equity-focused leaders who integrate education, artistic, and community-based resources to transform the lives of youth and families. PSi can also lead to graduate credit from UMass Boston and provides extensive coaching for anyone pursuing the MA Performance Assessment for Leaders. The program immerses leaders in school settings and community-based organizations and employs a design thinking approach to leadership development. NEW — Free Tickets for BPS Students to Boston Children’s Theatre
Boston Children’s Theatre offers tickets to our School Day matinees at no charge for Boston Public School students. These are outside of their regular public performances. This year, we’re particularly proud to be holding the World Premiere of the classic The Runaway Bunny, based on the classic by Margaret Wise Brown. Teacher union activists in the Philippines have been facing a lot of repression as they try to organize for better conditions, including their union’s general secretary, Raymond Basilio, receiving death threats. There’s an international labor solidarity group, LabourStart, that’s been circulating a petition in support of the teachers and their union leaders. Add your name: labourstart.org/go/raymond.
