This past weekend, we closed out Women’s History Month at our 3rd annual Women’s Rights Breakfast. As a majority-female union, we are proud to continue a new tradition in honor of contributions from women and women in the labor movement. The morning included a video message from Senator Elizabeth Warren, a moving speech by committee member Keisha Lewis, a tribute to BTU and AFT MA past president Kathy Kelley and awards given to City Council Education Chair Anissa Essaibi-George and Education Committee Vice Chair Senator Pat Jehlen. Thank you to everyone who was there in support!

Do you support fully funded, safe schools?! Take 30 seconds to send an email now! At our membership meeting last week, we took a poll on school safety. The results were clear: as educators, we know that safety for our students means adequate staffing of behavioral, physical, and mental health specialists; facilities that have safety features; and adequate funding to provide needed changes in our schools that keep our students and staff safe. Please take a moment to send an email to House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Ways and Means Chair Jeffrey Sanchez to let them know we need fully funded and safe schools.

Lastly, we have an important PSA for all BPS employees: Please protect your personal information from phishing scams! Phishing scams are on the rise around the world and they are hitting both work and home emails. The best defense against phishing scams is to educate yourself on how to spot a phishing scam and know what to do if you fall victim to a scam. With your personal and professional information on the line, it’s important that you protect your email password like you would protect any other piece of sensitive information. The BPS Technology Department has put together a short video that we encourage all of our members to watch! Keep in mind that phishing scams can also come to your personal email account, so stay aware, both at work and at home.

Have a great week and please stay alert!

The BTU Black Caucus Chapter held a very fun Paint Night at the BTU on March 23 to raise money for scholarships. Check out this amazing artwork!
