  • Elementary Math Discourse Learning Site
    This learning site on 3/14/23 places the question of ““How do we support students to synthesize their thinking through mathematical discourse?”. Led by Fran Ahearn (Philbrick Elementary), the site will demonstrate one teacher’s approach to answering this question while thinking through how to provide opportunities for math conversations to build student agency. After the observation educators have a chance to think through and debrief with the host teacher around the hows and whys of their teaching practice with potential for follow up coaching sessions for an ALC/PDPs.   • Bringing the Campus of Boston into Your Classroom: Teaching with Historic Places
    Professional Development for Boston Public and Charter School Teachers
    Place-based teaching and learning is an approach designed to engage learners in the stories and resources of a place to activate interdisciplinary learning. Boston’s richness of place-based resources expands across the city and links neighborhoods and schoolyards to sites of international significance. In this course, teachers will work with museum, historic site and national park educators to explore the value of place-based teaching and learning, on site and in your classroom. In 2023, as we make our way toward 2026 and the 250th anniversary of the nation, we are excited to welcome teachers back to an in-person experience and reintroduce you to our sites and all they have to offer students in their own city.

    Course offered through Framingham State University
    Participants will be partnered with Place-Based Boston sites to complete their final projects

  • Open Up/MVP Planning Cohort
    This Planning Cohort will address the question, “How do we implement a new math curriculum and build effective planning routines without feeling overwhelmed?” A Planning Cohort is a space for educators to collaboratively plan with the support of a teacher expert. During the Planning Cohort you will have time to unpack the Open Up/MVP math curriculum to develop a thoughtful unit plan, pool resources with other teachers in a similar context, and receive feedback from peers and coaches. Earn 1 ALC for work you are already doing!

  • SY23-24 BPS Teaching Fellowship Program
    Are you currently working under an emergency or provisional license? We are currently accepting applications for the BPS Teaching Fellowship (BPSTF) for SY23-24. BPSTF is designed to support teachers through DESE’s CAP Cycle and to ensure they secure initial licensure in Elementary, Moderate Disabilities, or ESL, while also providing teachers with on-the-job mentorship throughout the year. Teachers with an emergency or provisional license who need to enter an approved educator preparation program for initial licensure should apply on TalentEd at: https://bostonpublicschools.tedk12.com/hire/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=31700.   • Activating Boston’s Harbor Campus as a Living Classroom
    Apply now for “Climate Change in the City: Activating Boston’s Harbor Campus as a Living Classroom.” Hosted by the Stone Living Lab, this five-day institute from July 24-28 will bring 10 Boston-area teachers together for place-based learning centered on climate change and citizen science. The institute is tuition-free, and participants will receive 3 graduate credits on completion of the course!

  • National Parks of Boston Two-Day Teacher Workshops
    Join National Parks of Boston education staff in a 2-day workshop to help build and solidify our curriculum framework and school program engagement model. While taking stock of the parks’ past educational offerings, teacher input if sought to create an intentional framework to guide future lesson plan development and engagement with Boston Public Schools.
