BOSTON — The Boston Teachers Union is fully supportive of DESE Commissioner Pedro Martinez’s announcement this morning that UP Academy Holland will be released from state receivership. Educators at UP Holland have been working diligently on behalf of their students for the decade-plus that they have been in receivership, and will continue to do so now that the school will once again be managed by the district. We look forward to working with DESE and with BPS to ensure that the conditions remain in place for students at UP Academy Holland to learn and thrive for years to come.

Receivership is a concept that has shown itself to be ineffective, and we are pleased that UP Holland will once again be fully managed by the Boston Public Schools.
