Tomorrow, 1/6, we will hold our first mediation session with the Boston School Department. There are two additional meetings scheduled this month so far, and we look forward to moving along in the process as quickly as possible. (Here’s a press release we have issued.)Having said that, the process is by nature tedious and thoughtful, so it is expected that the entire process, which is held under the auspices of the state, will take anywhere from six months to two years. We wish we could offer additional fine-tuning as to the length of the process, but that is impossible as it is unknown. We will of course keep you posted.
Elsewhere in the city, SEIU local 888 has ratified an agreement giving its members the following salary increases over two separate three-year agreement: 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 3%, and 3%, with each salary bump up to take place half-way through each fiscal year. Local 888 represents about 1200 employees in a variety of city departments. See a report here. As part of this agreement no additional time was required.
