A community was in  uproar after Boston Public Schools announced yesterday the closing of West Roxbury Academy and the Urban Science Academy at the end of the school year due to their poor condition.

Parents voiced concern about how transferring their kids  would affect their academic and extracurricular success.

“I’m just really frustrated especially because I feel like there is nothing to do about it,” said parent Letetia Jacks, who has sons in each school.

“I’m worried because what if they can’t bring his teacher with him? He isn’t going to do well,” Jacks said. “What kind of education he is going to get somewhere else? Lots of parents are talking about it.”

Interim Superintendent Laura Perille said the closure is due to the bad state of the building over the past several years.
