The coronavirus pandemic that has forced schools and colleges to shutter their doors could ultimately spur positive change after the crisis ends, local educators say, but the trying times also shine a light on glaring inequities.

“Something like this really shows the inequities in our society in general and it amplifies them so that the social divide, the economic divide and the educational divide becomes much wider,” said Beth Kontos, president of the American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts.
