Many of you are familiar with AFT’s back-to school organizing program in which we send members to states where we have back-to school organizing campaigns. The campaign generally takes place in August and is open to all members including retirees.
Generally, the member organizers go to new employee orientations sessions, conduct school visits and, in some cases, house visits, all in an attempt to increase the membership ranks of our affiliates. The AFT will cover all the costs — transportation, food and lodging — and those who have participated in the program not only enjoy their time but come back with new skills. Volunteers also get to visit states where they might not otherwise get to visit.
