The BTU is the only Boston employee union that has a retiree-specific group. The RTC monitors and advocates for legislation that benefits our retired members. It works not only with the BTU and AFT, but also with groups such as Mass Retirees on local, state and national legislation of interest to our members. They meet on the last Monday of every month at 10 a.m. at the BTU.

Each year the chairs make the scholarship application available for members’ children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews.

The Chairs offer many trips throughout the year.

The Chairs accept new members to the RTC. Prospective members must fill out a membership card, either on line or request a card to be sent. The Chairs enter new members into the database.

The chairs are responsible for the fall luncheon. This luncheon is free to all members. However, members have to pay for the spring luncheon. In addition, the committee also arranges the business meetings in the spring and in the fall.

The Benefits chair is responsible for the negotiation of the cost for the Delta Dental Plan and the eyeglass benefit. He may also research the possibility of other benefits for our members.

The chair is responsible for recording and sending out condolence cards which state a contribution is made in the deceased member’s name.

The chair researches past RTC political, social and advocacy activities to create a historical record.
