One of our union leaders intimately involved in the negotiations’ process received a phone call yesterday from the John Connolly Mayoral campaign. The caller was trying to get our member to go with Mr. Connolly. The campaign worker touted as a positive that Mr. Connolly was the sole city councilor to vote no on the BPS/BTU teachers’ contract, and offered as justification the following reason: The BTU wanted to negotiate a shorter school day of 5 hours and 30 minutes, down from the current day, which is at least one hour longer. Our member assured the caller that the BTU actually wanted to extend the school day to approximately 7 hours or 7:10. The caller was insistent. Our member was informed. The moral: Never let truth get in the way of a campaign platform. |
