The majority of Boston Public Schools do not have a kitchen, and instead serve children frozen lunches that are shipped to the building and heated up on-site. The Shah Foundation worked on a project with the school system to bring in kitchen equipment and rework food systems to give students fresh food. Following the success of their four pilot programs, the city of Boston expanded the program to 30 schools, with another 30 to follow next year.

Jim Braude was joined by Jill Shah of the Shah Foundation and film director Fiona Turner, who made a documentary, “Eat Up,” about the process.
