Mayors and school superintendents from three of Massachusetts’ largest cities stood shoulder to shoulder with lawyers in Boston in early May and made it clear: If the Legislature and the governor can’t find the money to fund their schools they will turn to the courts.

Six months ago, there was broad agreement from House, Senate and administration leaders that the inequitable funding of schools in Massachusetts – the failure to give Gateway City children the same educational opportunities as wealthy suburban kids – was wrong and job one this year was to fix it.

So where are we now?
