Boston Hub Community School

showcased as strategy for the future!

BTU leaders joined BPS and DESE officials, along with state legislative leaders from across the state, on a visit to the Mattahunt School to learn about the role Community Hub Schools can play in improving education for our students. Thanks to the United Way for organizing the visit.
Good Morning,

This week, our hearts are with the students, families and staff at the Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. Students and educators across the country deserve to feel safe at school, and we need to put common sense measures in place to ensure that safety.

Hub Community School Model Highlighted as Success for Students & Families

Last week, BTU leadership joined the United Way, the YMCA, other non-profit partners to welcome City and State officials to the Mattahunt School to see the robust partnerships and community-connected learning at this Community Hub School.

Hub Schools have been a key pillar of the BTU’s negotiating proposals for over a decade, and we are proud to have won language in our contract that guarantees more Hub Schools in BPS. We currently have 20 Hub Schools, and we look forward to continuing this partnership with the school department and the City in the future. We are excited that just last night, Mayor Wu announced in her State of the Schools address that BPS will be rolling out five more Hub Schools so there will be a total of 25.

Hub Schools generally have a dedicated Hub School Coordinator to boost partnerships with community organizations, work with families and students to determine the areas that they need, and try to meet those needs. Hub Schools are also founded on strong, community-connected instruction, and this year the BTU is leading a PD series for 27 educators in Hub Schools to support their efforts to make their curriculum better reflect the communities in which their schools are located.
