BOSTON TEACHERS UNION RESPONDS TO END OF STATE RECEIVERSHIP AT TWO BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS
BOSTON — The Boston Teachers Union is fully supportive of DESE Commissioner Pedro Martinez’s announcement this morning that UP Academy Holland and the Dearborn STEM Academy will be released from state receivership. Educators in both of these schools have been working diligently on behalf of their students for the decade-plus that they have been in receivership, and will continue to do so now that they will once again be managed by the district. We look forward to working with DESE and with BPS to ensure that the conditions remain in place for students at UAH and the Dearborn to learn and thrive for years to come.
Receivership is a concept that has shown itself to be ineffective, and we are pleased that these two schools will be fully managed by the Boston Public Schools.
