City Councilor At-Large Annissa Essaibi George is hosting a hearing Monday on Boston Public Schools’ BuildBPS program in an effort to clarify what she says is a lack of information about the 10-year, billion-dollar initiative.

“As a City Council, especially as we prepare to go into budget season, we need to have a role in holding the School Committee accountable,” she said.

Essaibi George, chairwoman of the council’s education committee, said she was “disappointed” and “dissatisfied” with aspects of the plan.

“I attended a majority of the public meetings for BuildBPS and I met with students, parents and teachers who are unsatisfied by the lack of clear answers on the future of our schools. BuildBPS has the potential to make significant improvements, but it has to be done the right way,” Essaibi George said.

She said BPS families and staff are unsettled with how the BuildBPS rollout has happened so far.
