Also last week, the Boston Globe told the story of how New Mission and the Burke put rivalries on hold for their Unity Bowl:

In creating a game that focuses more on the unification of communities while placing less emphasis on a school rivalry that fans the flames and escalates tensions, administrators hope to foster positive change. This year the idea of unifying students carries extra significance, as the community lost one of its own when 16-year-old Gerrod Brown, a member of the football team at Brighton High, was shot and killed in Jamaica Plain on Halloween night….
