Silent, stunned and angry, dozens of Boston Public Schools teachers and parents cleared the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building after the School Committee voted unanimously to pass the Fiscal Year 2020 budget.

Students, parents, teachers and education coalition members expressed dissatisfaction and frustration at how the district will allocate nearly $1.4 billion dollars.

“They have no respect for us, every damn kid should get the same education and treatment,” said BPS parent Kanoi Hicks.

Prior to the School Committee meeting and vote, parents, teachers and education coalition members expressed anger and frustration at how the district will allocate nearly $1.4 billion.

Hundreds of students led a march to the Bolling Building on Wednesday with signs and chants in another attempt to make their voices heard by decision-makers assembling for the meeting.

“Policies with weighted student funding creates inequitable budgets so that some schools end up with certain things and others don’t. That is definitely inequitable,” Ruby Reyes, director for the Boston Student Justice Alliance, said. She argued that the district needs to stop cutting already minuscule school budgets. “There should be a baseline of resources for students at every school, so that each child gets a good education.”
