A technological glitch caused confusion among parents and students yesterday trying to sign up for school next year, school leaders said.

Discover BPS, the Boston Public Schools website used to show families their school choice lists during the annual registration process, showed fewer options.

Superintendent Tommy Chang said at last night’s school committee meeting the problem would be fixed “immediately.”

School officials said the problem arose due to the transition to the new statewide MCAS test. The state did not give out new school accountability ratings, which BPS uses to give parents a mix of options of high- to low-performing schools.

The mix-up frustrated parents who say registration for schools is already taxing.
