We have heard often from the school department the following in one form or another: “The BTU wants to keep unsatisfactory teachers in the classroom for a full school year.” Baloney!

Department PR spokesperson, Matt Wilder. It is a flat-out lie. This characterization is harsh — but in this case it is not only accurate but long overdue. Here’s what Mr. Wilder was quoted as saying in the September 6 West Roxbury Wicked Local:
“The teachers union thinks it’s acceptable that a teacher who receives an unsatisfactory job performance should be able to stay in a classroom without any changes for an entire school year,” he said. “We fundamentally disagree. We think our students deserve better.”
