Results from a spring 2018 survey showed 70 percent of Parker Elementary School students rate teachers positively in terms of pedagogy and effectiveness, however, only 41 percent feel the school is a good and safe place to be, according to Fran Roy, of School and Main Institute.

New Parker Principal Jennifer Mainelli and Roy said they plan to raise the levels of academic rigor, create an emotionally safe community and wraparound supports for students who need it.

Both Mainelli and Roy went before the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education meeting in Malden on Tuesday with two other schools in Boston that are currently under receivership to explain their progress and focus for the future.

Looking at MCAS scores, Roy noted there was a bump in English Language Arts (ELA), with 25 percent of students meeting expectations this year compared to 14 percent last year.
