On the revamping of the teacher assignment process… The new procedure, when it is in place, ought to provide a healthy benefit for schools, teachers, and administration. We believe it is a win-win. We reached this tentative agreement last summer. The district knew last July that the new procedure could only take place this instant season if it could reach an agreement on the entire contract. For the district in late March to cry that it is dismayed to learn that the new procedure cannot be placed in operation next week is, well, disingenuous. Truly, if the district wanted to put the new procedure in place at the beginning of April, the district ought to have tried to wrap up negotiations in January or February. Or even earlier this month. We are afraid they doth protest too much.

The Globe has a report today as does the Herald.

Thank you for sticking with us. We remain committed to obtaining a contract that is good for students, affordable for the city, and fair to all our members.
