If Erin Birmingham Anadu’s 6-year-old son doesn’t change his natural sleep-and-wake-up cycle, he is never going to make it to school on time next year. He typically gets up at 7:30 a.m., two hours before the opening bell at the Manning Elementary School in Jamaica Plain.
But next fall, classes at the Manning will begin much earlier: 7:15 a.m. That most likely will mean he’ll need to wake up before 6, often in the dark.
“I cannot fathom waking him up that early,” she said. “This concept that kids are early risers doesn’t apply to my family.”
