The Boston School Committee last week voted 5-2 to approve a controversial 2018 budget that includes $13 million in cuts to 49 schools. Their decision followed testimony from students, parents and teachers who protested the cuts. The school committee vote capped a series of at times contentious community meetings in which students and other public education activists pressed school officials to stop cuts to already struggling schools.
