Brittany Mitchell was pregnant and homeless, addicted to heroin and other drugs, when she walked into William J. Ostiguy High School one year ago.
The 19-year-old had been living on the streets, in and out of shelters in Boston, kicked out of her Peabody home and failing school.
Her life was not what she imagined it would be when she first started spiking her Gatorade drinks with cold medicine at 12 years old to be like “the cool kids.”
Pregnant with her now 4-month-old son, Beau, Mitchell was terrified. She had to make changes not only for herself, but for the baby growing inside her.
