AFT President Supports BTU Position on Extended Day
|
Last week Randi Weingarten held a press conference with five members of the BTU to shine a light on the Superintendent’s proposal to add 30 minutes of additional instructional time without compensation to an unknown number of city schools.
The Superintendent has promoted her additional time proposal in a variety of venues, often citing the MCAS turnaround at the Edwards Middle School. The Edwards, Umana, and Timilty middle schools were the first schools in the state to operate under the much-ballyhooed Extended Learning Time initiative.
There’s only one small inconsistency with the Superintendent’s citing this example, however: Staff in all three of these schools get compensated for their additional time.
