Last week the below letter was sent out to teachers and others at BLA from Educators 4 Excellence (E4E). Here’s what you should know about E4E:

Many of E4E’s funders include the same donors driving the campaign to privatize education and Question 2 on the November ballot including The Waltons (2 million to YesOn2), New Profit, The Boston Foundation, Strategic Grant Partners, and of course the most prominent funder of the YesOn2 campaign “those who wish to remain anonymous.

Educators for Excellence claims to want to help teachers make impacts on education policy. In fact, the best vehicle for accomplishing this goal in our union. If you have an issue where you want to make a difference for your school and your students, please join one of our BTU Organizing Committees, or contact Jessica Tang if you have a new idea that you’d like to lead.

Here’s the letter E4E sent out to BLA members:

Hi ____________,

I hope your school year is off to a wonderful start!

My name is Amanda Prouty and I am a founding Outreach Director at Educators 4 Excellence in Boston. Educators 4 Excellence, or E4E, is a national nonprofit organization focused on elevating the teaching profession by ensuring that teachers play a greater role in the decisions that impact their classrooms and students most. For the last decade, I taught history at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School. In addition to teaching, I spent six of those years as a teacher advocate in my union, both as a building representative and Vice President of our local. I am passionate about ensuring teachers’ voices reach those in power who make decisions about our profession.

In my new role, I will be working to engage teachers in Roxbury and Dorchester in the political and policy conversations that impact their classrooms. I am eager to learn more about the community you serve and your experiences in the classroom. I know this time of year is hectic but I would love to meet in person.

Below are some dates that I am available. I can meet you at school or at a coffee shop, wherever is most convenient for you. If those times and/or dates do not work, I will gladly work around your schedule.

Wednesday, 10/5 ~ 12:00-5:00pm
Thursday, 10/6 ~ 12:00-5:00pm
Friday, 10/7 ~ 12:00-5:00pm

I look forward to hearing from you!

Best,
AP
