Add your photos December of the December 16th Visibility Action below!
We are asking BTU members and allies to welcome students into school at the beginning of the school day on Friday, December 16th as a Sticker Friday and Visibility Action. Coming together around an issue so important also helps us to build solidarity as we continue to advance our goal of achieving a contract settlement that is good for schools and students and fair to our members.
Following the November 8th election, educators have felt a negative impact in our schools as described in this article where:
“Eighty percent (of 10,000 surveyed) describe ‘heightened anxiety and concern’ from vulnerable students about their futures, and 40 percent say they’ve heard derogatory language directed at students of color, Muslims, immigrants, and people based on gender or sexual orientation.”
We believe that now, more than ever, it is important to show our students that our schools will continue to be welcoming spaces for everyone: Whether you are Muslim, LGBTQ, immigrant, undocumented-students of all races, religions, gender and identities-everyone is welcome!
