Back To School Fair Planning Meeting

Boston Education Justice Alliance Meeting
Join the Boston Education Justice Alliance (BEJA) this Thursday, July 30 from 6-8 PM. The BTU is part of a growing coalition of students, parents, educators and community partners working on three main issues:

  1. Less Testing, More Learning;
  2. Full and Equitable Budgets;
  3. Building Parent and Student Voice in Schools.

Come give your input and participate! All are welcome. This Thursday, July 30 from 6-8 PM at Jobs with Justice (3353 Washington Street in Jamaica Plain), a two-minute walk from the Green Street orange line stop!

New Educators Meeting
Join the New Educator’s Committee on July 28 from 6-7:30 PM in reviewing and updating the New Teacher Survival Guide! We’ll also choose who’d like to be our committee chairs and set some upcoming dates for meet and greets during the school year!

BTU LGBTQ Committee
The BTU’s LGBTQ Committee will be meeting this summer to compose an informational brochure for teachers and school staff which will contain the proper terminology usage and tips to help educatorsbecome better versed at communicating with students about LGBTQ issues. We have created a doodle poll in hopes of meeting on a date that works for everyone. If you are interested in working with the LGBTQ committee on this very important tool please complete the Doodle poll.

Restorative Justice Committee
The Restorative Justice Committee will be meeting on July 27 from 12-2 PM at the BTU office for a brief meeting to devise an ongoing structure for our cohort. Topics at this meeting will include leadership structures, affiliations, and a social media plan. Come out to help the Restorative Justice plan for the upcoming school year. A. Philip Randolph Institute
The Greater Boston chapter of the A Philip Randolph Institute (APRI) will host its next meeting on August 24 from 4:30-6:30 PM (location TBD) to further its efforts to encourage and expand black political activity at the state, local and national levels of government. APRI believes that the development of a union presence in the black community, one that plays an active and constructive role is instrumental to improvements that relate to legislative changes, the communities social objectives and the civil rights movement. Summer Ed Workshop Series at Jobs with Justice
Every Monday from 6-7:30 PM, Jobs with Justice in JP (3353 Washington Street) has been hosting a free workshop series focused on education. There are only two left. On Monday, July 27, the focus will be “Our Money, Their Agenda: Government Budgets and How They Impact Us.” Come and support a local community partner for public education!
