Happy first day of August! July seems to have flown by as members were busy taking action in many ways:
- About a dozen BTU members joined students, parents, and allies at the State House to testify in support of S.223 and S.220, two Senate bills that would increase the funding for public education throughout the state and in Boston. You can learn more about these bills and view many of the testimonies on our newly updated website!
- Fifty members applied to and were accepted as delegates to represent the BTU at the AFT TEACH Conference July 20-22 (please see highlights).
- That same week, BTU members facilitated summer professional development for new cohorts of educators leading ELT work for next year at the BTU, while other members have been participating in professional development opportunities, teaching summer school, or taking students on learning opportunities as far as Nova Scotia.
And, of course, the BTU leadership and negotiating team have continued to work on contract negotiations. The team met last week for two full days of mediation and have scheduled two more full sessions for next week. We are hopeful that we can make some progress this month and will keep you posted.
