Good morning. Thanks to all who attended last week’s rally. An estimated 1,200 teachers, paras, and nurses attended, braving the cold and wind to show our determination to obtain a contract that is good for schools, good for students, and fair to our members. The district responded, and we held a lengthy negotiating session the day after. Negotiations are ongoing. A number of news organizations covered the demonstration. See coverage from the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald and the Bay State Banner.
See a TV interview on Boston Cable News with BTU President Richard Stutman. Discussion included the BTU contract, improving the diversity of the teaching force, staffing, and equitable pay between autonomous schools and traditional, among other topics.
We thank all those who worked hard on the demonstration, and we offer a special thank you to AFT President Randi Weingarten who flew up from DC to attend the rally. We also thank the Teamsters who provided a truck (with a loud horn). A final thank you, of course, goes to the 1,200 or so members, friends, parents, community activists and students who attended. Much appreciated!!
