It’s hard to believe that we’re already in March. This month is Women’s History Month, and tomorrow is National Women’s Day. Did you know that the AFL-CIO, the democratic federation of 60 labor unions representing 12.5 million working people, is the largest organization of women workers in the nation? It’s currently led by Liz Shuler, the first woman president in its 68-year history. ShareMyLesson has tons of resources to incorporate women’s history into lesson plans this month.
Our March membership meeting is TOMORROW, Wednesday, March 8 beginning at 4:30 p.m. We will have updates and business items, including a presentation on plans for our new building headquarters. See the full agenda. Please remember to bring your BTU card for admittance to our monthly meeting. Updates from the Election Committee: All signatures (paper and electronic) may be submitted at the BTU Hall beginning at 4 pm, but must be submitted by the end of tomorrow’s membership meeting. The Family2Family Conference (formerly known as Parent2Parent), will take place on Saturday, March 25. Our theme this year is Creating Safe and Welcoming Schools. As we’ve all adjusted to huge changes in our lives and schools, collaborating to support students is more important than ever. This is a conference for parents/caregivers AND educators to share and learn from each other, support family engagement, promote family advocacy, and strengthen family and educator collaboration. Please join the BPS Capital Planning team, Boston Public Facilities Department and the Mayor’s Office for an upcoming Green New Deal for BPS listening session to share your experiences with BPS with the design team. The sessions will be held on March 16 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. and March 21 from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. Your feedback will directly inform the educational foundation for new and renovated facilities as well as the criteria used for prioritizing capital projects. These focus group sessions are separate from the school-based ones and are specific to hearing educator perspective on physical space and building needs. Please register now!
Finally, there are still lots of Girl Scout cookies left for our in-service BTU members! One representative from each school can come by the BTU office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to pick up cookies for the BTU members at your school. If no one is able to make it during those hours, please call the BTU office to arrange pickup. There are still plenty of Thin Mints and other favorites!
