This Teacher Appreciation Week, we celebrate all of our wonderful educators who do so much to shape the minds, lives, and futures, of the thousands of Boston Public Schools students in our charge. Thank you to our teachers for your tireless work, day in and day out.

Congratulations to our 2019 BTU Fund For Teachers fellows. We wish them happy and safe voyages as they travel the world learning about education across the globe. We can’t wait to hear what they have learned. Read about this year’s fellows.

The BTU congratulates Dr. Brenda Cassellius on her selection as the new Boston Public Schools Superintendent. We look forward to a long, fruitful relationship with her and hope to resolve our long-standing need for a new contract. See BTU’s full statement on her selection.

Please join us for this month’s membership meeting, tomorrow from 4:30-6:30pm. Dr. Cassellius will be joining us at the start of our membership meeting tomorrow, and we will also be hearing from Executive Board candidates for our upcoming union election. View the full agenda and don’t forget to request child care!

May is Asian and Pacific Heritage Month. See the resolution passed by the Boston City Council last week recognizing the contributions of Asians and Pacific Islanders.

We plan to deliver thousands of petitions from educators, students, and community members demanding the schools our #StudentsDeserve to the School Department on May 22.

Please share the petition with family and friends!

Finally, we are asking all BTU members to attend the #FundOurFuture rally on May 16 at the State House. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to fundamentally change the formulas for school funding statewide. The PROMISE and CHERISH Acts need all of our support! Consider joining a phone bank to rally all educators to this very important action.

Sign a commitment to unite our voices with those of educators from around the state!

Educators in Boston, and even all of Massachusetts, do not stand alone. Check out this video of 7,000 educators rallying at the South Carolina State House this past Wednesday. And read this letter from AFT President Randi Weingarten in support of a congressional proposal to increase funding nationwide by $4.4 billion.

People everywhere understand that now is the time to #FundOurFuture!
