Grant Opportunity on Redefining Student and School Assessment
The BTU and BPS are excited to offer school teams the opportunity to participate in the Massachusetts Consortium for Innovative Educational Assessment (MCIEA), a statewide coalition of school districts and unions working together to think differently about measuring school quality and assessing students. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in high quality professional learning in developing curriculum-embedded performance tasks and leading teams in developing this practice at the school level. If you choose to participate in this opportunity, your school will receive a grant of $10,000 to support the work in a way that best suits the needs of your school. For more information about the MCIEA and its goals, and the specific requirements for participation, please see the documents in this folder. If you are interested or need more information, please contact Paul Tritter TODAY. (Participation is limited to 10 BPS schools.)

BTU Members and Central Office Collaborate to Offer Coaching Courses
The Office of the Chief of Schools, Academic Response Team, Office of Human Capital, and Peer Assistance and Review Team are partnering to provide three practitioner-led learning opportunities for BPS evaluators and educators looking to grow their practice. Coaching and Support courses are designed to complement the “Observation & Feedback” course, but are also open to non-evaluators. Courses include:

  • Difficult Conversations
  • Content Coaching
  • Supporting Underperforming Teachers

Courses begin in May. See all details and register on My Learning Plan.

Important Note for Schedule A Schools Regarding PD Scheduling
As part of the agreement to extend the school day, the BTU and BPS agreed to return to the 2007-2010 contract language regarding scheduling of PD hours. In all Schedule A schools, staff must vote to approve the PD schedule for the next school year by June of the preceding year.
