  • AFT Member Webinar: Simple Digital Tools for Online Learning
    April 23, 7 p.m. EDT
Are you “distance teaching,” trying to stay connected with your students during this crisis? Even the most tech-savvy of us could use some support during this stressful time, so the AFT is bringing together some of our local experts to help. Hear from your fellow educators as they do some quick demos of digital tools like Flipgrid and Screencastify that can help you connect with your students in a meaningful way. At the end of the session, we will have time to share experiences and find out what other supports you need. Presented by: Colleen Callahan, director of professional issues, Rhode Island Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals and Audra McPhillips, K-12 mathematics specialist/coach and AFT Thinking Math national trainer, West Warwick (R.I.) Public Schools.
  • Distance Learning and ELLs: What Have We Learned So Far?
    April 30, 3 p.m. EDT
The challenges of the global COVID-19 pandemic are many. Although distance learning has quickly become the default solution for the more than 54 million students displaced by school closures, it is estimated that 25-50 percent of the 5 million ELLs around the country either do not have the appropriate technology devices needed for online learning or access to the internet. Join us to learn more about some best practices we are seeing thus far for both groups of ELLs—those with internet access and those without. Presented by: Diane Staehr Fenner, president, SupportEd; Larry Ferlazzo, award-winning teacher, author and columnist, Luther Burbank High School, Sacramento, Calif.; Lydia Breiseth, director, Colorín Colorado and moderated by Giselle Lundy-Ponce, AFT.

Note: If the time doesn’t work for you, register anyway. We’ll send you a link to view it later on demand!
