  • Elementary Math Discourse Learning Site
    This learning site on 3/14/23 places the question of ““How do we support students to synthesize their thinking through mathematical discourse?”. Led by Fran Ahearn (Philbrick Elementary), the site will demonstrate one teacher’s approach to answering this question while thinking through how to provide opportunities for math conversations to build student agency. After the observation educators have a chance to think through and debrief with the host teacher around the hows and whys of their teaching practice with potential for follow up coaching sessions for an ALC/PDPs.   • Bringing the Campus of Boston into Your Classroom: Teaching with Historic Places
    Professional Development for Boston Public and Charter School Teachers
    Place-based teaching and learning is an approach designed to engage learners in the stories and resources of a place to activate interdisciplinary learning. Boston’s richness of place-based resources expands across the city and links neighborhoods and schoolyards to sites of international significance. In this course, teachers will work with museum, historic site and national park educators to explore the value of place-based teaching and learning, on site and in your classroom. In 2023, as we make our way toward 2026 and the 250th anniversary of the nation, we are excited to welcome teachers back to an in-person experience and reintroduce you to our sites and all they have to offer students in their own city.

  • Open Up/MVP Planning Cohort
    This Planning Cohort will address the question, “How do we implement a new math curriculum and build effective planning routines without feeling overwhelmed?” A Planning Cohort is a space for educators to collaboratively plan with the support of a teacher expert. During the Planning Cohort you will have time to unpack the Open Up/MVP math curriculum to develop a thoughtful unit plan, pool resources with other teachers in a similar context, and receive feedback from peers and coaches.   • SY23-24 BPS Teaching Fellowship Program
    Are you currently working under an emergency or provisional license? We are currently accepting applications for the BPS Teaching Fellowship (BPSTF) for SY23-24. BPSTF is designed to support teachers through DESE’s CAP Cycle and to ensure they secure initial licensure in Elementary, Moderate Disabilities, or ESL, while also providing teachers with on-the-job mentorship throughout the year.     Apply now for “Climate Change in the City: Activating Boston’s Harbor Campus as a Living Classroom.” Hosted by the Stone Living Lab, this five-day institute from July 24-28 will bring 10 Boston-area teachers together for place-based learning centered on climate change and citizen science.   • Critical Disciplinary Professional Development
    This course is designed for secondary content teachers. Across these 6 modules you will learn how to use critical disciplinary literacy as an approach to teaching disciplinary content.
    Participants will understand critical disciplinary literacy as an approach to teaching disciplinary content, evaluate current instructional practices, learn to incorporate a critical disciplinary approach to curriculum development and instructional design and use a critical disciplinary literacy approach to lesson and unit planning. Completion of this 12-hour course

  • Application Open for 2023-24 BPS Bilingual Education Accelerated Community to Teacher Program (BE/ACTT) Cohort
    Do you have staff members, paraprofessionals, substitute teachers, or career changers who need provisional licensure in teaching and SEI endorsement by June 2024? The BPS Bilingual Education Accelerated Community to Teacher Program (BE/ACTT) is an intensive 12-month program designed to prepare racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse Boston residents OR BPS paraprofessionals, and substitutes who hold a Bachelor’s degree and experience working with children in a classroom setting to become novice BPS teachers with a provisional license. Our bilingual educators’ pathway, BE ACTT, has been launched in partnership with the Office of English Learners, MTEL Prep, and DESE to cultivate 30-40 candidates annually. The BE/ACTT Program prepares racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse educators to become teachers with a provisional license in Early Childhood Education; Elementary Education; or Middle/High School Math, Science, or English/Humanities and/or with a Bilingual Education endorsement.
