The National Board process we know and love has changed – for the better. It is still based on the same high standards, but now it is less expensive, and can be completed in a multi-year process. What is the big difference? Rather than 4 entries, we now have 4 components. Each Component is $475, with a $75 yearly maintenance fee while completing the process. The total cost of certification is $1900, plus the yearly fee; and teachers have 3 years to complete it. Once they are certified, under the existing BPS-BTU contract, they are still entitled to a 4% salary increase above base salary. In addition, for a fee, NBCTs can earn graduate credits that could advance our pay lane. Finally, BPS has reimbursed the NBPTS fee to teachers who earned certification.
