Grant Opportunity on Redefining Student and School Assessment
The BTU and BPS are excited to offer school teams the opportunity to participate in the Massachusetts Consortium for Innovative Educational Assessment (MCIEA), a statewide coalition of school districts and unions working together to think differently about measuring school quality and assessing students. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in high-quality professional learning in developing curriculum-embedded performance tasks and leading teams in developing this practice at the school level. If you choose to participate in this opportunity, your school will receive a grant of $10,000 to support the work in a way that best suits the needs of your school. For more information about the MCIEA and its goals, and the specific requirements for participation, please see the documents in this folder. If you are interested or need more information, please contact Paul Tritter as soon as possible, but not later than May 1. (Participation is limited to 10 BPS schools.)
Why is there a New Climate Survey?
You may have noticed that the BPS climate survey is different than in years past. This year, as BPS is considering new vendors for the permanent survey instrument, we are testing out a survey that is being administered in the six districts participating in the Massachusetts Consortium for Innovative Educational Assessment (MCIEA), a statewide coalition of school districts and unions working together to think differently about measuring school quality. If you have questions or concerns about the new survey, please call Paul.
Attention 1st and 2nd Grade Teachers
Are you curious about the new first grade curriculum? Did you know that there will be a second grade pilot in September? Please attend an information session tomorrow, Tuesday, April 25 from 2-4 PM at the Bolling Building OR from 4:30-6 PM at Boston Latin Academy, Suite 6. RSVP to Melissa Tonachel.
Important Note for Schedule A Schools Regarding PD Scheduling
As part of the agreement to extend the school day, the BTU and BPS agreed to return to the 2007-2010 contract language regarding scheduling of PD hours. In all Schedule A schools, staff must vote to approve the PD schedule for the next school year by June of the preceding year. Please email Paul Tritter with questions.
